During the international press conference held to mark Cevisama, the prizes and diplomas were presented for the 23rd edition of the Spain of Tile Awards for Architecture and Interior Design.

The Tile of Spain Awards are sponsored by the Valencia Port Authority, Torrecid and PwC España with the backing of the Generalitat Valenciana’s Regional Ministry of the Treasury and the Economy, as part of the agreement signed with ASCER.
The object of the Tile of Spain Awards is to promote the use of Spanish ceramic tiles in architecture and interior design projects (both in Spain and beyond its borders). The Tile of Spain Awards boast a solid trajectory and are held in high esteem by professionals working in the field of architecture.
The Awards have a cash prize of €15,000 for each of the winners in the architecture and interior design categories, as well as €5,000 in the Master’s dissertation category for architecture students.
Results of the 23rd edition of the Tile of Spain Awards
Architecture Award:
“The circular viewpoint” by Javier López Bautista. This is a viewpoint located in the town of Puebla de Arenoso, in the province of Castellón, on the site of a former threshing floor, which affords magnificent views of the Mijares River reservoir. The jury highlighted how the use of ceramic material creates a more direct connection with the surroundings, as well as a sense of communion between humans and the land that supports the viewpoint. The way the material is laid out not only reinforces the concept of a panoramic viewpoint but also directs our gaze towards the landscape.

Interior Design Award:
“Hill house” by studioNOLET is the renovation of a single-family home in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, in which the reddish-toned flooring is the focal point. The jury praised the expressive geometric and chromatic interplay, which prevents any sense of uniformity. The use of ceramic tiles goes beyond surface finishes, and also contributes to the creation of built-in furniture elements.

The judges decided to award two special mentions in each of the main categories:
Arquitecture: “Dosmurs House” by Mesura Arquitectura and “Yellow Brick Road” by La Errería.
Interior Design: “House in Guardamar del Segura” by Bernardo Cerrato Hernández and “9/3 House” by CAVAA Arquitectes.
Master’s Dissertation Award:
The prize in the Master’s Dissertation category (TFM by its Spanish initials) was awarded to the project entitled “A post-extractivist retreat. A spa and leisure centre in Sierra de la Culebra” by Álvaro Pozo Pérez from CEU San Pablo University in Madrid. The judges particularly appreciated the expressive use of ceramic tiles, applied in a scale-like manner in order to resolve the highly complex geometry. The project’s sustainable nature lies in the recovery of agriculture and livestock waste for energy in a contemporary proposal that mixes leisure and health.

The judges awarded as special mention in the Master’s Dissertation category to the project titled “A Sensory Refuge” by Tais Gianella Guevara Lima from CEU San Pablo University in Madrid.
Media Outlets category
Each year, ASCER recognises two media outlets whose reporting has best contributed to the dissemination and promotion of Spanish ceramic tiles. At this latest edition, the award in the international category went to the specialised ceramics journal Reférénce Carrelage, and in the Spanish media category to Diseño Interior magazine.
