The 24th edition of the Tile of Spain Awards of Architecture, Interior design and MTP is now open, reaffirming ASCER’s commitment to promoting the use of Spanish ceramic tiles in architectural and interior design projects. One of the main innovations this year is the introduction of new subcategories within the Architecture and Interior design categories, based on the type of ceramic material used. This change aims to recognise a greater diversity of approaches and applications in the use of ceramic materials. The prestigious Tile of Spain Awards, organised by ASCER are open to both national and international professionals, provided their projects feature ceramic floor or wall tiles manufactured by companies members of ASCER.

The jury will be chaired by the architect Julio Touza Rodríguez and includes several leading figures from the fields of architecture and design. Confirmed jury members include architect Martín Lejárraga; interior designer Carmen Baselga; Antonio Jesús Luna, editor of ROOM Diseño magazine; and Susana Babiloni, President of the Castellón Architects’ Association.

The deadline for submitting projects is 20 October 2025. The jury will meet in Castellón at the end of November to deliberate and select the winning entries.

Changes in the current edition

The professional categories of Architecture and Interior design will now be divided into two subcategories, depending on the type of ceramic material used in the projects.

– Subcategory A-a / I-a: projects using dry-pressed porcelain tiles
– Subcategory A-b / I-b: projects using other ceramic types such as extruded stoneware, wall tiles, mosaics, terracotta, etc.

This update doubles the number of professional awards, increasing from two to four, and enhances the recognition of the wide range of ceramic applications in contemporary design.

A prize of €8,000 will be awarded to the winners of each of the four professional subcategories (A-a, A-b, I-a, I-b). Additionally, a prize of €3,000 will be awarded to the best MTP, in the category aimed at architecture students.

About the jury

Julio Touza Rodríguez, president of the jury, is an architect and urban planner with more than five decades of experience. He founded Touza Arquitectos in 1974 and has led over 2,700 projects in Spain and internationally, in countries such as Morocco, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Germany, and Abu Dhabi. His work spans multiple areas including residential buildings, office complexes, corporate headquarters, commercial spaces, sports facilities, and hotels. He holds a PhD in Architecture and a Master’s in Urban Planning, and has taught design, construction, and industrialisation at the School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM). He is a regular speaker at international conferences and has authored numerous publications.

Martín Lejárraga is an architect and director of his own studio in Cartagena, where he develops projects of different scales and programs for the public and private spheres.

Throughout his professional trajectory he has shown a constant interest in ceramics, not only for its technical and constructive value, but also due to its cultural, expressive and sensory dimension. This material has been present in numerous works by the studio, such as Casa C in La Manga, and Edificio Tívoli in Cartagena, which explore the possibilities of ceramics as a tool for dialogue between the environment, light and the Mediterran building tradition. Both of these works have received recognition for the way they integrate ceramics in contemporary architecture, with attention to context and detail.

Carmen Baselga is the creative director of her eponymous multidisciplinary studio, where she develops projects across interior architecture and design. Her work ranges from ephemeral spaces—such as exhibitions, trade show stands, and stage design—to residential, office, retail, hospitality, and outdoor urban environments. She has carried out projects both in Spain and abroad, including a recent showroom in New York City. Her approach combines creativity, functionality, and sensitivity to the cultural and social context of each commission. She is also active in the dissemination of design culture, curating events and seminars related to architecture, design, and gastronomy. She teaches in the Master’s programme in Interior Design at CEU Cardenal Herrera University in Valencia and has held various professional and institutional roles in the design sector.

Antonio Jesús Luna is the editor and co-founder of ROOM Diseño magazine. Born in Córdoba and trained as a philologist, his career has always been linked to language and publishing. He entered the field of design in 2003, first as editor-in-chief of REM Magazine and later as co-editor of ROOM Diseño, a print and digital publication that since 2012 has explored the intersections of architecture, design, and contemporary creation. A passionate advocate of non-normative design, Luna is drawn to eccentric approaches—understood as those away from the centre—and embraces Charles Eames’ visionary mantra: “I’d like to have people working on useless projects, because that’s where new ideas come from.” He shares Andrea Branzi’s poetic perspective on the value of the useless, underpinned by immersive electronic culture and neoprimitivism.

Susana Babiloni, president of the Castellón Architects’ Association (CTAC), is an architect from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV). She holds a Master’s in Marketing and Market Research from Universitat Jaume I (UJI), and a diploma in Graphic Design from the Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de Castelló (EASD). Since 2012, she has led her own studio, focused on building design and property valuation. She has contributed to the drafting of Castellón’s new General Urban Plan (PGOU) and advises several municipalities on urban planning and real estate assessment. In parallel, she delivers technical training at universities and professional institutions, specialising in real estate valuation and georeferencing applied to urban planning and architecture.

The Tile of Spain Awards are supported by the Regional Ministry of Finance of the Generalitat Valenciana.
