Cruz y Ortiz will chair the jury for this year’s edition, recognising the best projects in Architecture, Interior Design and Master’s Thesis categories
Entries for the 25th edition are open until 22 October
The jury has now been appointed for the 25th edition of the ASCER Tile of Spain Awards for Architecture and Interior Design. Chaired by Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos, it will bring together leading professionals from the fields of architecture and design.
The remaining members of the jury will be architect Fran Silvestre; design studio ILMIODESIGN; Isabel Margalejo, editor of Arquitectura y Diseño magazine; and Susana Babiloni, president of the Castellón Territorial Association of Architects.
The competition is open to professionals from Spain and abroad, provided that the projects incorporate ceramic floor and/or wall tiles manufactured by ASCER member companies as an integral part of their design. The deadline for submissions is 22 October, and the jury will meet in Castellón in late November to reach its decision.
Meet the jury
Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos
The jury will be chaired by architects Antonio Cruz and Antonio Ortiz, founders of Cruz y Ortiz Arquitectos, who have more than five decades of shared professional experience and an extensive international presence. Their best-known projects include the renovation and extension of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid, Santa Justa railway station in Seville, the Spanish Pavilion at Expo 2000 in Hanover and La Cartuja Stadium in Seville. Their many honours include the CSCAE Gold Medal for Architecture, the Spanish National Architecture Award and the Gold Medal of Andalusia. hey have also pursued distinguished academic careers, teaching at universities such as Harvard, Cornell and Columbia, as well as in Zurich and Lausanne.
Fran Silvestre Arquitectos
Fran Silvestre holds a PhD in Architecture from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), where he teaches in the Department of Architectural Design. He is also qualified in urban planning by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) in the Netherlands and currently heads the MArch Postgraduate School of Architecture and Design. After training alongside Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza, he founded Fran Silvestre Arquitectos in Valencia in 2005, a multidisciplinary studio working on residential, cultural, corporate and public projects worldwide. Its best-known works include the Cliff House, the House in Hollywood Hills and the Eolic Tower. His career has earned him major international distinctions, including the Red Dot Design Award, first prize at the 13th Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism, the NYCxDESIGN Award, the iF Design Award and several German Design Awards. His work has been exhibited at MoMA and published by Phaidon, Taschen and Rizzoli.
ILMIODESIGN
ILMIODESIGN was founded in Madrid in 2009 by architect Michele Corbani and industrial designer Andrea Spada, both graduates of the Polytechnic University of Milan. Their practice has developed a particular expertise in hospitality design, with projects including The Boc Beach and Hipotels Don Juan in Mallorca, winners at the 24th ASCER Tile of Spain Awards; Paradiso Ibiza Art Hotel; and Canfranc Estación, a Royal Hideaway Hotel, which transformed the landmark 1928 railway station into a luxury hotel. The studio’s work has also earned distinctions such as the iF Design Award and the ELLE Decoration Award for Best Contract Project. Its multidisciplinary approach extends to furniture design and art direction.
Arquitectura y Diseño – Isabel Margalejo
Isabel Margalejo is a journalist specialising in fashion, design, architecture and interiors. She holds a degree in Journalism from CEU San Pablo University and a master’s degree in International Relations from the Ortega-Marañón Foundation. She began her career at Vogue in 1994 and subsequently contributed to publications including El País Semanal, El Mundo, Telva and Woman. She joined Architectural Digest Spain in 2008 and served as deputy editor from 2013 to 2021. After helping to launch Manera and contributing to ICON Design and Arquitectura y Diseño, she became editor of the latter in late 2022. She has also taught at the Condé Nast College and the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
CTAC- Susana Babiloni
Susana Babiloni is president of the Castellón Territorial Association of Architects (CTAC). She graduated in Architecture from the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and holds two master’s degrees in Marketing and Market Research from Universitat Jaume I (UJI) and Advertising Graphics from the Escola d’Art i Superior de Disseny de Castelló (EASD). Since 2012, she has run her own practice, specialising in building projects and property valuation. She is part of the team drafting the ARRU document for Castellón’s new General Urban Development Plan, advises several local councils on urban planning and valuation, and delivers technical training at universities and professional associations on property valuation and georeferencing as applied to urban planning and construction.
